I think this is Week 4. Right? If I’m going to keep at this every week I really need to figure out a consistent naming system.
This week’s game play has not gone according to plan. I mean, when does it? I knew that wouldn’t be a thing. But still. I thought for sure certain things would catch my player’s interests.
That’s okay. We’ve still had a blast. Or at least, I have, and I think my husband has. No complaints here.
After our in-person session, we did some role play over Discord to have the characters get to know each other better, and then the plot began advancing. That alone has already changed what was going to happen in the next session. If we hadn’t done the role play they probably would have stuck around town and met whatever was coming to face them head on. Again, not complaining. This just changes what I’ve had to prepare for. I also had less time to decide what was going to happen and how, since they were making time move by chatting in character online.
And to be honest? I still haven’t actually prepared what’s going to happen next time. I have character stats for the encounter that’s about to unfold and character stats and very basic info for a few more things after that, but I probably don’t have enough for however far we’re going to get on Monday morning.
It’s taken me three days to get Chapter Three written and I did 75% of that today. I really haven’t gotten anything done.
I haven’t practiced accents all week, although I am continuing to learn how to speak Irish (without an accent).
I’ve barely touched any of my D&D books, so no more learning about spells or magic items or monsters this week.
It’s been an off week for me.
But hey, my husband was just fired and we just decided we’re going to be moving across the country in a few weeks. I’m allowed to have an off week and I’ve certainly had a lot of excuses lately.
I don’t know what the next few weeks are going to look like, but I will be continuing to work on the campaign, even if I won’t be spending as much time on it as I’d like to. Once things settle down I’m sure I’ll get a lot more done.
Right now I’m particularly sad because I don’t know if I’ll be able to bring all 10+ boxes of nonfiction books with me in the move right away… that cuts down some of my reading/learning options. But I guess I’ll get by.
Anyway, I’m trying to keep to a bedtime here, and it’s already a few minutes past. Hopefully I’ll have more to talk about next week. And eventually I do intend to post detailed descriptions of backgrounds, cities, history, et cetera. It’ll be fun.
